Job summary

Cook County Health in Illinois is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric assessment and ongoing management for patients with co-morbid medical and behavioral conditions. The role includes outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings across Cook County Health sites, with primary assignment at John H. Stroger, Jr.

Hospital and JTDC as needed. The candidate must hold an MD or DO, be licensed in Illinois (or eligible), and be board-certified or eligible in Child and

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited program is required.
  • Licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain physician license before starting employment is required.
  • Illinois and Federal controlled substance license or eligibility to obtain license before starting employment is required.
  • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or must obtain Board Certification within two years of starting this employment.
  • Completion of a General Psychiatry Residency is required.
  • Completion of child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship from accredited program is required.
  • Experience with diverse patient populations and emergency/inpatient psychiatric consultations is required.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Must be able to travel to CCH work sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management.
  • Assesses psychopathology, development, culture, and family within the child/adolescent context.
  • Educates patients, families, students, residents, and staff on mental health in a medical practice.
  • Provides clinical guidance to non-physician clinical staff and team.
  • Documents encounters in medical records and communicates diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
  • Maintains licensure, board certification, and credentials.
  • Participates in quality improvement and professional development activities.
  • Provides psychiatric consultation across CCH sites including JSH and JTDC.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of practice.
