Job summary

Louisiana Department of Health seeks an experienced Laboratory Director to provide executive direction for the statewide public health laboratory system in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The role requires a doctorate in a biological, environmental, or chemical science and a permanent license as a CLS-G or CLS-S. Supervisory-level experience and the ability to work with multiple agencies are essential.

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in a biological, environmental, or chemical science.
• Must be able to pass criminal background check and security clearance.
• Experience at supervisory level or above in laboratory settings is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive direction of a statewide public health laboratory system.
• Oversees scientific and technical aspects of the laboratory system.
• Ensures adherence to CMS CLIA standards and other federal regulations (FDA, EPA, USDA, CDC).
• Directs personnel functions including hiring, termination, promotion, and reallocations.
• Reviews and sets budget priorities to support public health infrastructure and diagnostics.
• Consults with LDH executives, medical directors, program managers, and regional admins on laboratory issues.
