Job summary

Mercer University’s Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC) seeks a Chief Engineer, Software to lead software contracts across design, development, prototyping, production, and operations. You will mentor technical leads and contract personnel while coordinating with the technical director.

The role requires top-tier engineering credentials, DoD clearance eligibility, and extensive cross-disciplinary leadership in aerospace, software, and systems engineering. Location: Warner Robins, GA.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in software/CS/engineering with 13+ years related experience.
• Master’s degree with 12+ years relevant experience.
• PhD with 10+ years relevant experience.
• Experience leading diverse technical teams.
• Extensive experience in aerospace, electrical, software, environmental, biomedical, mechanical, or systems engineering.
• Knowledge of engineering principles: analysis, test, and design.
• Strong organizational and time management with attention to detail.
• Ability to bridge communication among engineering, service techs, BD, operations, and clients.
• Budgeting and cost management skills.
• Ability to draft reports on contracts, resource use, and quality.
• Technical acumen and troubleshooting across programs.
• Business development activities: customer interface, estimating, scheduling, proposals.
• Ability to take a concept to a working model.
• Knowledge of web applications, cybersecurity, CI/CD, and big data concepts.

• Set example and mentor all technical leads and contract personnel.
