Job summary

Conning & Company in Hartford, CT seeks a Chief Risk Officer to lead enterprise-wide risk management, overseeing fiduciary investment, operational, regulatory, and emerging risks. You will design and drive risk policies, escalate material risks, and ensure alignment with strategy and risk framework.

The CRO will provide board-level reporting, interact with risk committees, and mentor a team of risk professionals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in enterprise risk management within financial services or related regulated industry.
• Experience engaging with Boards, risk committees, and senior executives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and board-level reporting.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent view of risk across Conning and advise the Board and senior management on material risk matters.
• Design, implement, oversee, and maintain enterprise risk management framework and policies.
• Identify, assess, monitor, and escalate material risks, emerging risks, and risk events.
• Provide independent oversight of fiduciary investment risks, ensuring adherence to client mandates and risk limits.
• Lead risk reporting processes, including quarterly risk oversight materials for the Board.
• Conduct annual assessment of risk management effectiveness and internal controls.
• Lead and develop the risk management function and promote a strong risk culture.
• Serve as liaison between the firm and parent organization for risk-related matters.
• Collaborate with parent company on risk management to align mitigation strategies.
• Manage several direct reports.
