Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) is seeking a seasoned regulatory attorney to lead and shape the strategic direction of our regulatory legal team. You will mentor attorneys, collaborate with business leaders, and guide cross-functional decision-making on complex regulatory matters.

This role requires extensive experience in utility regulation and energy law, strong leadership, and a proven track record in coordinating outside counsel and governance activities.

Qualifications

• JD and license to practice law in any U.S. state or D.C. and Indiana licensure within 18 months.
• 15+ years in corporate environments, government, or law firms focused on utility regulation or energy law.
• 12+ years of management experience leading regulatory attorneys and staff.
• Extensive experience in regulatory and administrative law.

Responsibilities

• Shape strategic direction and vision for the regulatory legal team with senior leaders.
• Provide executive leadership, guidance, and oversight to regulatory attorneys.
• Mentor and develop regulatory attorneys and high-potential staff.
• Partner with business leaders to support decision-making on complex regulatory matters.
• Advise on impact of laws and regulatory decisions across jurisdictions.
• Lead relationships with outside counsel and coordinate legal strategies.
• Oversee preparation for experts, staff, and executives on regulatory issues.
• Navigate stakeholder environments and influence outcomes.
• Provide leadership in litigation strategy and discovery processes.
• Support governance and oversight with MISO leadership and Board.
