Job summary

Maybell Quantum is seeking a visionary Vice President of Research & Development to lead and scale its scientific organization. You will translate breakthrough cryogenic research into manufacturable, commercially viable solutions while partnering with product and manufacturing leadership.

Reporting to the CEO, you will build a high-performing team, set OKRs, and drive funding opportunities including government grants.

Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Cryogenic Engineering, or a closely related field.
10+ years in deep-tech environments, with hardware or cryogenic systems preferred.
7+ years leading scientists or multidisciplinary research teams.
Track record of managing R&D budgets over $5M.
Ability to translate complex research into scalable commercial applications.
Experience securing and managing government grants or external contracts is highly desirable.
Thrives in high-growth, fast-paced settings with ambiguity.

Responsibilities

Set and drive the R&D vision and scientific roadmap aligned with executive leadership and product strategy.
Own the R&D master schedule and ensure milestones hit deadlines and critical paths.
Translate science projects into managed engineering initiatives with ROI.
Identify risks early and reallocate resources to keep programs on track.
Build and mentor a growing team of world-class scientists and researchers.
Pursue non-dilutive funding and coordinate external collaborations and proposals.
