Job summary

Hanwha Defense USA is seeking a Chief Project Engineer, Naval Engineering to lead ship design and integration efforts for U.S. Navy programs. The role focuses on marine engineering, naval architecture, and cross-functional program execution, reporting to the Senior Director, Naval Engineering.

You will supervise engineering analyses, coordinate with customers and regulatory bodies, and drive budgets and schedules for major projects while maintaining security clearances.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in maritime engineering required
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in naval ship design, ship integration, or maritime defense programs
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to engage with technical and program stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

The Opportunity

Hanwha Defense USA (HDUSA) is seeking a Chief Project Engineer, Naval Engineering specializing in marine engineering and naval architecture to support U.S. Navy shipbuilding programs. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Naval Engineering. This role supports engineering analyses, ship system integration, and program execution for modernization and acquisition activities.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership role in major projects, including areas of ship or other product design, marketing, process improvement, R&D and other internal projects as directed by management
  • Pro-active in seeking out and correcting integration issues among engineering disciplines during design process
  • Supervise analysis of program cost/schedule control data
  • Represents assigned project’s cost, schedule and technical status at meetings
  • Leads significant meetings with customers, owners and regulatory bodies
  • Acts as single point of contact with external customers
  • Works with engineering management team to identify and mitigate risk during design process
  • Responsible for coordinating development of ships specs and associated deviations/waivers
  • Responsible for insuring adequacy of process for tracking, analysis and response to Owner and Regulatory Body issues, including coordination of scoping and action plans for major issues
  • Leadership role in developing budgets and reports for assigned projects
  • Represent HDUSA at client meetings and makes effective and professional presentations to audiences which may include Senior Management, Customers and other VIPs
  • Will interface with customers, Program Managers, Engineering Management, other Engineering sections, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines, as required
  • Will be informed of priorities and be expected to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks
  • May supervise task teams in accomplishment of project work
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a maritime engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in naval ship design, ship integration, or maritime defense programs.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and program stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and naval architecture tools or modeling software.
Desired additional skills
  • Experience supporting U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command or MARAD programs.
  • Knowledge of DoD and NAVSEA acquisition processes, milestone events, and ship design review cycles.
  • Experience working with shipyards, OEMs, or international shipbuilders involved in amphibious or logistical vessel development.
