Job summary

Spectrum News is seeking a Chief Photojournalist to oversee the photojournalism department, lead a team of photojournalists, and set production and quality standards for news gathering across ENG/SNG platforms.

You will develop news photographs for video, provide editorial feedback, and make data-informed decisions on audience resonance while managing assignments across various shifts and weather events.

Qualifications

• Experience: Shooting and editing television news footage experience - 8+ years, microwave truck experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, related field or comparable television work experience
• Technical skills: Must know how to edit news video
• Skills: Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; ability to relate well with populations and age groups
• Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community, must obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license for authorized driving in the State of residence
• Schedule: Ability to work various shifts, longer shifts, weekends and holidays, and be flexible with schedule changes due to 'breaking news', and/or severe weather emergencies

As the Chief Photojournalist, you will oversee the photojournalism department. You will lead a team of photojournalists while operating ENG/SNG news gathering equipment. You will need to know how to develop news photographs for video. Your photographers will be prepared and sent out on assignments. You will establish production, technical, and photojournalistic quality standards. You must ensure standards are met and provide editorial comments to photojournalists. You’ll make data-informed decisions about what’s resonating to connect our audience with the stories that matter.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Shooting and editing television news footage experience - 8+ years, microwave truck experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, related field or comparable television work experience
• Technical skills: Must know how to edit news video
• Skills: Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; ability to relate well with populations and age groups
• Abilities: Ability to interface with internal company personnel, requires adaptability, enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem solving
• Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community, must obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license for authorized driving in the State of residence
• Schedule: Ability to work various shifts, longer shifts, weekends and holidays, and be flexible with schedule changes due to 'breaking news', and/or severe weather emergencies

• Works inside in a climate-controlled environment and outside throughout the year and may be subjected to various weather conditions that could include extreme heat or cold conditions
• Must be willing to work in severe weather emergencies, such as hurricanes
• Drive company vehicle to and from different locations in a safe manner by obeying all traffic laws

The base pay for this position generally is between $78,900.00 and $139,500.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
