The Chief Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Facilities, including controlling treatment plant machines/equipment to purify/clarify water for human consumption, maintaining the fire distribution system, and providing administrative support. The Facilities Operations team is committed to providing the employees and residents at Rockingham County a safe, supported, and environmentally conscious environment. The Chief Operator supervises, monitors, and maintains the overall operations of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Facility, including budgeting/purchasing requests, preparing and submitting reports to the State and Federal regulating agencies, department Director, employees, and residents. They ensure safety policies and procedures are followed, all State and Federal drinking water standards are met, and water quality and equipment are tested regularly. The role involves maintaining and repairing facilities, distribution systems, and equipment, including backflow prevention devices. As part of the supervisory team, the Chief Operator prepares performance reviews for the Operator and Assistant Operator, manages daily work orders, and conducts training. The position requires participation in cross-training with other divisions in Facilities Operations and may involve being on-call for emergency situations such as snow removal for up to 16 hours.
