Maplewood of Cheshire County is seeking an experienced Chief Operator of Water & Wastewater for our Westmoreland, NH location. The role focuses on safe, efficient operation of water and wastewater treatment plants and delivering potable water to the community.

Essential duties include ensuring regulatory compliance, performing maintenance, and overseeing laboratory testing and records. Licenses incl. Grade II Water Distribution and Grade II Water/Wastewater are required.

Qualifications

  • Duties require knowledge of water and wastewater treatment equivalent to completion of an Associate’s degree and three to five years of related experience.
  • Grade I Wastewater Treatment License, Grade II Water Treatment License, and Grade II Water Distribution License required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing water/wastewater treatment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effluent complies with state regulations and EPA permit.
  • Verify water quality meets all regulations for distribution.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance at treatment centers.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine testing for compliance.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including pumps and meters.
  • Provide on-call duty for maintenance and related duties as needed.

Job description

Maplewood of Cheshire County has an immediate, full time opening for a Chief Operator of Water & Wastewater at our Westmoreland, NH location. This dynamic position is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of the County’s Water and Wastewater Treatment plants and delivering potable drinking water.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures that all effluent is in compliance with state regulations and provisions of the Environmental Protection Agency discharge permit for the facility.
  • Ensures that water entering the distribution system meets all state and federal regulations
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance at the Water/Wastewater Treatment Centers, including buildings, grounds and pumps.
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment in proper working order
  • Performs day to day testing of the County’s water and wastewater for compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations; performs distribution line and hydrant testing
  • Responsible for knowing and using proper procedures for effective operation of the water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Provides on-call duty for the Maintenance department
  • Performs other related duties required, (including plowing during winter)
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
  • Duties require knowledge of water and wastewater treatment equivalent to completion of an Associate’s degree and three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade I Wastewater Treatment License, Grade II Water Treatment License, and Grade II Water Distribution License required.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods related to the operation of water and wastewater treatment plant and the wastewater collection system.
  • Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery common to water and wastewater treatment plants including pumps, motors, and compressors.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations, procedures, and statutes.
  • Mathematical aptitude and ability to maintain required records.
  • Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of Chemistry, Bacteriology, and sampling and testing techniques for wastewater/water.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with NHDES and EPA regulations pertaining to the maintenance and operation of Grade II Treatment Plants.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in work including but not limited to computer equipment, oxygen meters, ph meters, pumps, aeration blowers, corrosive chemicals, confined space retrieval devices, safety equipment, and gas meters for confined space entry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and to establish positive public relations for the County.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operational maintenance manuals.
  • Ability to read and write English; must not be color blind.
  • Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain required records.
