Job summary

The Whatcom Family YMCA in Whatcom County is seeking a Chief Operations Officer to lead the day-to-day operations across multiple sites and guide the organization through a major capital campaign and a new 85,000-square-foot facility. The COO will partner with the CEO and Board to drive programs, membership and financial sustainability, while building leadership capacity and delivering measurable results.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of progressively responsible executive or senior leadership experience, preferably within a complex nonprofit.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred; an advanced degree is a plus.
• YMCA multi-team or organizational leader certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe).
• Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, performance management and sustainability.
• Experience using data and performance measures to inform decisions and improve results.
• Commitment to creating an inclusive workplace with equitable opportunities to contribute, grow and lead.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-site YMCA operations and strengthen consistency, quality, and performance.
• Coach, develop, and hold senior leaders accountable while building a leadership pipeline.
• Strengthen membership acquisition, engagement, retention, and the overall member experience.
• Advance programs that respond to changing community needs and drive impact.
• Oversee facilities, maintenance, assets, and readiness during significant growth.
• Partner on budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and financial sustainability.
• Improve systems, processes, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.
• Use data and community feedback to identify opportunities and solve problems.
