Job description

The Village of Mahomet, Illinois is seeking an experienced, community-focused, and team-oriented law enforcement professional that is inspirational, energetic, trustworthy, and organized to serve as its next Chief of Police. Located just ten miles west of Champaign-Urbana in east-central Illinois, Mahomet is home to over 9,900 residents who enjoy excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, and a high quality of life. The Mahomet Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency, staffed by fifteen sworn officers and operating with an annual budget of $2.7 million. The next Chief of Police will be a visible leader, capable of inspiring and mentoring officers, while also fostering strong partnerships with residents, businesses, and local stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned public safety leader who embodies approachability, accountability, diplomacy, and professionalism. This individual must be grounded in the principles of service and support, yet unafraid to take charge when the situation calls for it.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of command-level supervision experience.
• Demonstrated experience in patrol operations, criminal investigations, and major crimes.
• A record of positive community engagement and team development.
• Must reside within the Village of Mahomet or within its 1.5-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $120,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village of Mahomet offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a take home vehicle, health insurance, retirement, paid leave, and professional development support.
