Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, seeks an accomplished physician leader to serve as Chief of Hospital Medicine, overseeing inpatient care across CMH’s hospitals. This role combines strategic program leadership with ongoing clinical practice and a focus on quality, patient flow, and staff engagement.

The Chief will recruit and develop hospitalists and APPs, drive performance improvements, and partner with senior leaders to advance standards of care across multi-site operations.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certification in Internal Medicine (or eligible).
• Demonstrated leadership experience in Hospital Medicine or a similar physician leadership role.
• Experience leading multi-site hospital medicine programs is preferred.
• Strong commitment to rural/community hospital settings and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall clinical leadership for Hospital Medicine services at CMH facilities.
• Ensure high-quality inpatient care reflecting CMH standards and patient safety priorities.
• Lead and develop hospitalists and advanced practice providers.
• Support patient flow, length-of-stay management, and care transitions across the system.
• Lead system-wide quality improvement initiatives focused on safety and outcomes.
• Partner with leadership on staffing, budgeting, and workforce planning.
