The State of Rhode Island is seeking a Chief of Highway Maintenance Field Operations within the Department of Transportation. This essential role manages statewide highway maintenance, ensuring safety and efficiency through effective planning, supervision, and coordination of maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering or related fields, and significant supervisory experience in highway construction or maintenance, contributing to public infrastructure and safety.
Within the Department of Transportation, responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating staff engaged in statewide highway maintenance programs. Develops and implements operational processes for assigned programs and districts. Manages property and fleet, communications, emergency responses, safety, staff, budget, and public safety. Performs related work as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the State Highway Maintenance Operations Engineer with wide latitude for independent judgment. Work is reviewed through reports and conferences for compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.
Supervision Exercised: Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates subordinate staff engaged in highway maintenance operations.

Special Requirements: Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and ongoing licensure.

Additional Information: Preferably at least five years of supervisory experience in highway construction/maintenance, overseeing electrical and traffic systems.
