Job summary

The City of Billings seeks a Fire Chief to plan, direct, manage, and oversee the Fire Department including fire prevention, fire suppression, and the communications center. The role requires coordinating activities with other City departments and outside agencies, and providing high-level administrative support to the City Administrator.

The salary range is $138,045 to $176,217 annually, with starting pay based on qualifications and experience. Schedule: Full Time. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in public administration, emergency management, or fire science.
• Twelve or more years of combined education and experience in personnel management, fire suppression and prevention, and incident command.
• Experience with city government and knowledge of department function operations.
• Pass pre-employment drug test and State/Federal background check.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Select, train, motivate and evaluate Fire Department personnel.
• Provide or coordinate staff training.
• Plan, direct and coordinate the Fire Department's work plan through subordinate managers.
• Manage the development and implementation of Fire Department goals, policies, and priorities.
• Direct the Fire Department and Communications Center budget and expenditures.
