Job summary

Morris County Government is seeking a Director of Communications to lead the Office of Communications & Digital Media. This full-time, in-office role reports to the Assistant County Administrator and oversees a small team including a Website & Digital Manager, Digital Content Manager & Media Specialist, and a part-time Editor/Photographer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Communications related area preferred, but not mandatory depending on work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in marketing and/or communications.
• Ability to act as a confidential aide to county administration and Commissioners.

Responsibilities

• Develop deep knowledge of Morris County programming, services and public policies.
• Lead multi-faceted public information campaigns highlighting initiatives, services and strategies.
• Plan, execute and manage social media campaigns, videos, and website announcements.
• Coordinate with partners to promote Morris County as a destination for visitors and new residents.
• Oversee social media communications and the county website, ensuring accessible services for the public.
• Prepare and transmit a weekly e-newsletter highlighting Commissioners’ activities and community events.
• Organize programs and events at Board meetings and in local communities, including remarks and media coordination.
• Plan annual and special events with county partners and departments.
• Respond to emails and calls with consistent messaging and respectful communication.
• Oversee distribution of informational brochures, maps, and flyers.
