Job summary

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks a bold, strategic Chief of Campus Security to lead safety, trust, and belonging across the campus community. This role shapes culture, policy, and operations to ensure a safe, inclusive environment aligned with BRCC’s mission.

The Chief serves as the top law enforcement leader, directing public safety activities, modernization efforts, and collaboration with internal and external partners. Strong leadership and years of policing experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field from an accredited college or university
  • 10 years of progressive policing experience, including 5 years in a command-level position
  • Ability to meet certification requirements under Louisiana Revised Statutes, LRS 17:1805, Authority of University or College Police Officer
  • Experience supervising sworn personnel and managing public safety operations
  • Knowledge of modern policing practices, emergency response, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational effectiveness

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for all public safety operations, including patrol, investigations, and emergency response
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures in compliance with federal/state laws and system requirements
  • Lead campus emergency preparedness planning and coordinate crisis response protocols
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners to promote safety and trust
  • Oversee training and professional development of public safety personnel
  • Oversee security technologies, parking operations, and identification systems
  • Develop and manage the department budget and allocate resources effectively

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is looking for a bold,strategic, and people-centered Chief of CampusSecurity to lead our campus safety efforts into thefuture. The Chief of Campus Security acts as the top law enforcementleader for Baton Rouge Community College, providing strategicdirection, operational management, and policy guidance for allcampus public safety activities. This position assists in providinga safe, secure, and inclusive campus environment that aligns with the College’s mission, Strategic Pillar of Student and EmployeeSuccess, and Standards of Excellence, including Collaboration,Accountability, and Innovation. The Chief oversees themodernization of public safety operations, builds community trust,and ensures full adherence to federal, state, and systemregulations.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • 25% – Strategic Leadership & Department Oversight Providesexecutive leadership for all public safety operations, includingpatrol, investigations, and emergency response; establishesdepartmental vision, priorities, and performance of standardsaligned with institutional strategy.

  • 20% – Compliance, Policy, and Risk Management Develops,implements, and maintains policies and procedures in compliancewith federal and state laws (including Clery Act), LCTCSrequirements, and law enforcement best practices; ensures auditreadiness and risk mitigation.

  • 15% – Emergency Preparedness & Crisis Management Leads campusemergency preparedness planning and response; serves as a keymember of the College’s Crisis Management Team; coordinatesresponse protocols and continuity strategies.

  • 10% – Community Engagement & Campus Partnerships Builds andsustains relationships with students, faculty, staff, and externalpartners; promotes trust through visibility, transparency, andsafety education initiatives.

  • 10% – Organizational Development & Training Establishes andpromotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, andcontinuous improvement; oversees training, certification, andleadership development of public safety personnel.

  • 10% – Operations & Technology Management Oversees securitytechnologies, parking operations, and identification systems tosupport a modern, efficient, and secure campus environment.

  • 5% – Budget & Resource Management Develops and managesdepartmental budget; ensures effective allocation of personnel,equipment, and financial resources.


Required Education

Bachelor's degree in any field of study


Required Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or other related fieldfrom an accredited college or university

  • 10 years of progressive policing experience, including 5 years ina command-level position (e.g., Lieutenant, Captain, Commander,Division Chief).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Demonstrated law enforcement leadership experience withprogressively responsible supervisory or management roles.

  • Experience supervising sworn law enforcement personnel andmanaging public safety operations.

  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement practices, including criminaland administrative investigations, community engagement, emergencyresponse coordination, and professional accountabilitystandards.

  • Experience developing or implementing departmental policies andprocedures.

  • Experience coordinating with local, state, or federal lawenforcement or emergency response agencies.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational managementskills.

  • Knowledge of Clery Act compliance and campus safetyregulations


Required Licenses or Certifications


  • Commissioned and completed POST-certified firearmstraining.


Preferred Education


  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, orrelated field


Preferred Experience


  • Experience in higher education or campus lawenforcement,

  • Experience leading organizational change, modernization efforts,or departmental culture improvements.

  • Experience implementing or managing security technologies (CCTVsystems, access control, dispatch systems, etc.).

  • Experience managing budgets, implementing securitytechnology

  • Experience in professional development and trainingprograms.

  • Experience with Incident Command System (ICS) and emergencyresponse coordination


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Completion of advanced police leadership or managementtraining, such as the FBI National Academy or NorthwesternUniversity Center for Public Safety, or possession of relatedtraining obtained at a state level.

  • Knowledge of Title IX compliance and campus safetyregulations
