The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets. Its key responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility, and markings, ensuring safety for motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) focuses on strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management to create livable streets that support safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality. It also aims to enhance NYC's pedestrian, bicycle, and micro-mobility networks, especially in Priority Investment Areas, promoting mode shifts and reimagining streets through innovative programs and design typologies.
The Bicycle Unit manages the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (over 1,000 miles), focusing on safety and increasing bike ridership through innovative redesigns of city streets.
The Chief of Bikes and Micro-mobility will collaborate closely with the Associate Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Public Realm to align goals with the OLS mission. The role involves developing and implementing long-term visions and policies for NYC's Bicycle and Greenway networks, emphasizing safety, mode shift, education, and micro-mobility growth.
The candidate will lead efforts across TPM and DOT divisions for policy development, planning, outreach, and implementation, including inter-agency collaboration for non-DOT bike networks and citywide micro-mobility policies. They will oversee outreach strategies to engage NYC's diverse populations, promote cycling, and enhance safety measures.
As the primary representative on bikes and micro-mobility, the candidate will foster partnerships at local, national, and global levels, advocate for DOT initiatives, and support staff development. They will also work with the OLS admin team to manage procurement, contracts, grants, and administrative tasks.

The position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program with DC37.
Salary ranges from $58,682 to $159,671. Work location: 55 Water St, NY. Hours: 9am-5pm, 35 hours/week.
