Job summary

The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI seeks a Chief Nursing Officer to provide leadership and operational oversight for nursing services and patient care. The CNO partners with senior leadership to drive quality, safety, patient experience, and financial stewardship.

The CNO leads professional nursing practice, and serves as liaison between nursing and medical staff, developing strategies for clinical excellence and organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, or related field; doctoral preferred.
  • If Master’s is not in Nursing, Bachelor’s in Nursing required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • RN licensure in State or compact as a RN per licensure requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for nursing and organizational growth.
  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations, including workforce planning and talent development.
  • Foster collaboration between nursing, clinical departments, and medical staff.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Serve as a change agent, leading initiatives for quality, safety, patient experience, and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee integration of care and operations across the organization.
  • Motivate and lead a high-performing, diverse management team; provide coaching and professional development.
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical practice, healthcare economics, and policy.
  • Champion evidence-based practice and a culture of shared decision-making.
  • Direct the development and management of operating and capital budgets.
  • Represent the hospital in the community and with external agencies.
  • Promote nursing research, professional development, and academic partnerships.
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility with staff, patients, and families to promote engagement and trust.
  • Ensure continuity and consistency of nursing care across the organization.
  • Lead and support committees, interdisciplinary groups, and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
