The CNO will report to the CEO, oversee about 40 FTEs, and drive accountability, staffing, budgeting, and leadership development across the hospital's nursing services.

Qualifications

  • Current or recent CAH CNO experience is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of CAH CNO experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS requirements, quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Nursing leadership certification such as NE-BC or NEA-BC is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing and patient care services.
  • Lead nursing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintain CMS Conditions of Participation compliance and readiness for surveys.
  • Oversee nursing staffing, recruitment, retention, and workforce development.
  • Develop nursing leaders and establish succession plans.
  • Monitor nursing productivity, staffing and workforce utilization.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and executive leadership.
  • Represent nursing in leadership, Medical Staff and Board meetings.

E-Health Jobs is conducting a retained search for an experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to join a Critical Access Hospital, Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

This is an opportunity for an experienced CNO to join a hospital that has already begun a significant nursing transformation. The hospital has an interim CNO in place, has recently hired new Med/Surg and Emergency Department managers, has a strong Quality Director, and has begun implementing an organizational action plan.

The permanent CNO will continue that work, strengthen nursing operations and leadership, build accountability, and ensure improvements are sustained throughout the organization.

What the Hospital Is Looking For:

Current or recent Critical Access Hospital CNO experience is required.

The hospital is particularly interested in CNOs with experience in:
  • Leading organizational change and nursing transformation
  • Creating a culture of accountability and sustaining improvements
  • CMS regulatory compliance and survey readiness
  • Critical Access Hospital operations and CMS Conditions of Participation
  • Quality improvement and patient safety
  • Developing, mentoring, and retaining nursing leaders
  • Succession planning and talent development
  • Working effectively with physicians and other medical staff
  • Nursing operations, staffing and workforce management
  • Budgeting and financial management
Position Scope

The CNO reports directly to the CEO and serves as the hospital's senior nursing executive. The position oversees nursing and patient care operations, including Emergency and Med/Surg services, with approximately 40 FTEs.

  • Maintain readiness for regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets
  • Work collaboratively with medical staff, department leaders and executive leadership
  • Represent nursing in leadership, Medical Staff and Board meetings
Qualifications
