St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO seeks a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide executive leadership for nursing and patient care services across the hospital.

The role drives clinical quality, patient safety, staff performance, and efficient resource use, representing nursing at executive and medical staff levels. The CNO maintains 24/7 accountability for nursing operations, leads strategic direction, ensures safe, high-quality care, supports workforce development, and mentors staff

Qualifications

• Active and current registered nurse license in the state of practice.
• Nursing degree required; postgraduate degree in nursing or related field or a plan with timelines to obtain one.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate and maintain current.
• Five+ years of progressive management experience in a facility environment as a Nursing Director.
• Minimum of two years leadership/administrative experience.
• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven leadership ability and facility operational expertise.
• Ability to organize patient care promoting optimal outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.

Location: St Joseph Medical Center – Kansas City, MO

We are seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) who will provide executive leadership and oversight for nursing and designated patient care services across the hospital. This role is responsible for driving high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, staff performance, and effective use of resources. Serving as a key member of hospital leadership, the CNO represents nursing at the executive, governing board, and medical staff levels.

Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) maintains 24/7 accountability for nursing operations, staff, patient care, and assigned resources.

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for nursing and patient care operations
• Oversee the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practices and services
• Ensure safe, high-quality patient care and maintain strong clinical standards across the organization
• Support staff competency, workforce effectiveness, and appropriate management of patient care resources
• Represent nursing priorities and concerns during governing board and medical staff leadership meetings

Qualifications

• Active and current professional registered nurse licensed in the state in which he or she practices is required
• An academic degree in nursing is required, and a postgraduate degree in nursing or related field (may include health care administration or business administration) or a written plan with specified timelines to obtain a postgraduate degree is required
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate and maintain current
• At least five years of progressive management experience in a facility environment, as a Nursing Director of multiple, complex nursing departments
• Minimum of two (2) years previous leadership or administrative experience required
• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven leadership ability and facility operational expertise.
• Ability to serve as role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing
• An individual able to effectively and efficiently organize patient care promoting optimal outcomes, patient safety, and patient, physician and employee satisfaction
• An individual with proven success recruiting, retaining and developing staff. Someone effective in mentoring and developing staff, encouraging professional growth and achievement
• Takes the lead in complying with regulatory standards, rules and laws
