Job summary

Mercy Hospital Springfield is seeking a visionary Chief Medical Officer to lead clinical strategy, quality improvement, physician engagement, and operational excellence in the Springfield region. This executive role directs patient-centered care and collaborates with hospital leadership to advance Mercy’s mission.

The CMO will oversee clinical governance, safety initiatives, and staff development while driving Mercy’s strategic priorities across the system.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and board certification.
• Minimum of five years of clinical practice.
• Leadership experience as Medical Director, Department Chair, Chief of Staff, or physician executive.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, governance, and quality improvement.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of contracted Medical Directors with operations.
• Lead quality improvement, risk management, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Position Mercy Hospital Springfield as the regional provider of choice.
• Drive continuous improvement in clinical outcomes, patient experience, and operations.
• Foster collaboration, accountability, and professional development among physicians and teams.
• Partner with physician leaders and administrators to advance goals.
• Integrate quality, risk, and patient safety across departments.
• Lead physician engagement, recruitment, and leadership development.
• Dedicate full-time effort to the Chief Medical Officer role.
