Job summary

RXinsider LTD. seeks a seasoned Mechanical Plans Examiner/Inspector to enforce Florida mechanical codes across multiple jurisdictions.

The role involves communicating complex code requirements to owners, developers, engineers, and contractors, and coordinating with city staff to resolve issues promptly. The candidate should have extensive Florida Building Code experience, supervisory background, and applicable mechanical certifications.

Qualifications

• Valid Florida mechanical license or equivalent certifications.
• Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and related regulations.
• 10+ years of supervisory experience within the Florida Building Code environment.
• Plans Examiner certification by MDC/BORA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries regarding code compliance.
• Enforce procedures to correct violations under client jurisdiction.
• Collaborate with jurisdictions, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors on code compliance.
• Coordinate with client jurisdictions and inspection staff for processes and resolution of conflicts.
• Prepare written notices and correspondence outlining required corrections for code compliance.

About the Role

Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills. Relays technical information and direction to owners, applicants, contractors, municipal clients, and staff as necessary, in a manner understandable to each by tailoring oral communication to the audience.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries regarding compliance with mechanical codes.
• Implements enforcement procedures to correct violations under the direction of the client's jurisdiction, depending on the violation.
• Is an effective team player and utilizes a collaborative decision-making style to resolve issues or conflicts promptly.
• May be involved in various interactions with client jurisdictions, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding code compliance for proposed projects and projects currently under construction.
• Works with a number of client jurisdictions and their inspection staff for the coordination of processes and procedures, identify issues, and resolve conflicts to ensure a timely and clear city decision.
• Uses effective oral and written communication skills.
• Prepares written work products, such as correction notices or other correspondence to property owners and contractors outlining necessary corrections to assure code compliance for projects under construction.
• Occasionally performs technical inspections and/or review of plans for commercial and residential structures and systems to assure compliance with the mechanical codes, works with other staff, and as needed with client jurisdictions on project review and resolves potential conflicts in code requirements to ensure a timely review.
• Participates as needed in discussions concerning code interpretations.
• Attend training to improve technical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Respond to inquiries from client jurisdictions and, as needed, to developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public regarding interpretations of codes, regulations, and processes.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with city clients, other staff, builders, designers, and the public.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and make timely decisions.
• As needed, may perform plan reviews for residential and commercial plans for conformance with applicable codes while providing a high level of customer service in working with designers, contractors, developers, homeowners, and citizens.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

Qualifications

• State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) in mechanical; or State of Florida Plan Review License (PX) in mechanical; and State of Florida Inspector License (BN) in mechanical, or Possession of the Journeyman Mechanical Certificate and ten years of experience as a practicing mechanical master or journeyman general.
• Must have knowledge of the Florida Building Code and other regulations pertaining to construction and development.
• Ability to understand and interpret codes and evaluate project proposals and projects under construction to verify conformance with code requirements.
• 10 plus years' supervisory experience working within the Florida Building Code.
• Certified or certifiable as a Plans Examiner by the Miami Dade or the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) is a plus!
