The City of Sunny Isles Beach is seeking a Senior Mechanical Inspector to perform complex technical and administrative work inspecting boilers, elevators, HVAC systems, refrigeration, and related equipment for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
This role requires site inspections, plan reviews, permits verification, coordination with contractors and engineers, issuing violations, maintaining inspection records, and ongoing professional certification.

Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of complex technical and administrative work in a typical office setting and in the field inspecting and enforcing compliance with, laws, regulations, and ordinances relative to the installation and operation of boilers, elevators, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, pressure and process piping, fuel gas systems, amusement rides, and related and allied equipment and installations – public or private.
Position Scope:
This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
Communicates with Building Official and Chief Mechanical Inspector on any structural problems, code issues or regulatory requirements that have not been resolved.
Maintains current knowledge of trends and regulatory developments for application to functional areas under charge; attends annual continuing education courses for re-certification.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of current codes and regulatory standards governing the state’s building construction industry in the mechanical trade/discipline. Knowledge of all functions relevant to the processing and approval of building construction projects in the respective trade/discipline e.g., plans review, licensing, permitting, and inspections.
Skill in the review and interpretation of construction project plans, and the technical interpretation of applicable construction codes and regulatory standards. Skill in written communications for the effective development and presentation of departmental reports and modifications to established codes and ordinances.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to provide plans review oversight and recommend/develop modifications as necessary to ensure overall project compliance with applicable codes and regulatory standards. Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines. Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files. Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications. Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, departmental staff and management, contractors, engineers, architects and property owners.
Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by five(5) years’ experience as a Licensed Mechanic, two (2) years’ experience in the inspection of High-Rise/Multifamily buildings and two (2) years’ experience performing plan review; or any acceptable related combination of education and experience. All appropriate certifications for the position in the mechanical trade/discipline as designated under the provisions of the Florida Building Code and Miami Dade County Chapter 8.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
Master Mechanical Contractor license in the State of Florida or Miami Dade County. Mechanical Inspector certification in the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County required. Plan Reviewer certification in the State of Florida and a valid Florida Driver’s license required. Must meet all other licensure requirements set forth by the Miami-Dade County Chapter 8 and the Board of Rules and Appeals.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information:
There is a one-year probationary period.
