Job summary

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) Board of Directors is seeking a mission-driven, community-minded, and visionary leader to serve as the next Executive Director of the largest library system in Arkansas. CALS serves 344,553 residents across Pulaski and Perry counties, with a $30 million annual budget and 14 library locations including the Main Library.

Qualifications

• MLS from an ALA-accredited institution.
• A minimum of seven years of professional library experience, including at least five years in an executive leadership or senior management role.

Responsibilities

• Implements and monitors policies approved by the CALS Board and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Prepares an annual budget reflecting the level of financial support and the library's mission; forecasts and manages funds.
• Oversees public relations, acting as CALS’ representative to public officials, civic groups, and the community.
• Leads collaboration with community leaders to advance library interests and strategic priorities.
