Job summary

Retool in the United States is hiring a Head of Legal to be Retool’s senior legal leader and the architect of a function built to scale. You’ll own the full scope: commercial and vendor contracting, privacy and compliance, and corporate matters that underpin a fast-growing company in an AI-driven space.

Reporting to the CFO, you’ll lead the existing legal team, set priorities, advise executives with GC-level credibility, shape policies, manage outside counsel, and partner with Sales, Finance,

Qualifications

• J.D. and active U.S. bar membership required.
• 10+ years in law firm and/or in-house with B2B SaaS contracting exposure.
• Experience leading a legal function or team; readiness to do so.
• Strong knowledge of privacy/data protection frameworks (GDPR/CCPA awareness).

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the legal team; set priorities and resourcing decisions.
• Own commercial contracting program and vendor agreements; partner with Sales on enterprise deals.
• Oversee privacy and data protection in contracts, products, and reviews.
• Advise on AI-related legal/regulatory matters in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Trust.
• Manage outside counsel, budget, governance, and financing/corporate development work.
