Job summary

Merck in Rahway, NJ is seeking an Executive Director, Digital Transformation & Delivery Excellence to lead enterprise-wide initiatives translating digital strategy into disciplined execution across IT. You will drive strategic alignment, governance, and ROI realization with cross-divisional impact.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of leadership experience in technology, IT strategy and large-scale transformation.
• Proven track record delivering multi-divisional programs across global enterprises.
• Experience in turnaround, crisis leadership, or interim leadership roles.
• Strong executive presence, with proven C-suite advisory and governance participation.
• Hands-on understanding of modern software architecture, public cloud, API-first, DevSecOps, and legacy migrations.
• Familiarity with data governance, MLOps, and generative/agentic AI deployment patterns.
• Rigorous financial management, including business cases, TCO, and vendor governance.
• Regulated industry experience in biopharma, life sciences, healthcare, or related fields.
• Life sciences domain knowledge across Discovery/R&D, Clinical Development, Manufacturing & Supply, Commercial/Medical.
• Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and lead senior directors and matrixed teams.
• Consulting background in enterprise transformation or strategy is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Direct the delivery of enterprise transformation initiatives with executive sponsorship.
• Frame investment trade-offs, roadmaps, and ROI with the CIDO and IT leadership.
• Transform IT delivery models from federated projects to agile, value-stream driven.
• Scale digital capabilities, data pipelines, and AI solutions across divisions.
• Partner with HR and divisional IT leaders to accelerate workforce modernization.
