Job summary

UPMC Family Hospice seeks a dynamic Chief Medical Officer to provide strategic medical leadership across hospice and palliative care within UPMC's IDFS. The CMO will align clinical programs with system priorities, oversee performance, and drive improvements across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

The role partners with PSI and the University of Pittsburgh, supports fellowship training, and represents UPMC as a national thought leader in hospice care.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with active Pennsylvania medical license (or ability to obtain).
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in hospice and/or palliative care.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills within complex health systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of hospice and palliative care services within UPMC acute care hospitals, including inpatient units, ICUs, EDs, and specialty lines.
• Provide overall medical direction for all hospice programs across inpatient, hospital-based, SNF, and community settings.
• Ensure CMS, federal, state, and payer requirements are met and comply with regulations.
• Oversee physician documentation, billing, coding, and quality and financial integrity.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient outcomes, safety, and experience.
