Roadrunner Venture Studios is seeking a Head of Hardware Engineering for a portfolio company developing rainfall enhancement technology. You will lead architecture and prototyping through qualification and production, applying aerospace rigor to industrial hardware that must perform reliably in the field.

This hands-on leadership role manages external partners, drives DFM, and guides a growing hardware team while balancing equity ownership in an early-stage startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering or related field.
• Experience leading hardware from concept through prototype to qualification and production.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks/NX) and PLM systems.
• Experience with design for manufacturing and supplier documentation.

Responsabilités

• Own requirements and architecture across mechanical, thermal, combustion, structural, fluid, gas-handling, controls, and instrumentation systems.
• Lead the system from early design through prototypes, integrated builds, field-ready hardware, and production planning.
• Lead combustion and thermal hardware design, fuel and gas handling, flow and pressure systems, and thermal management.
• Define verification methods and lead shop tests, integrated system tests, field qualification, troubleshooting, and failure reviews.
• Turn concepts into CAD models, drawings, BOMs, supplier packages, build instructions, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead design for manufacturing and assembly so prototypes mature into production hardware.
• Manage engineering, procurement, and external firms and partners, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
• Use test data and field feedback to drive design improvements and production readiness.
• Own hardware schedule, budget, qualification timelines, technical quality, and production plan.
• Recruit, mentor, and manage a small hardware engineering team.
