Roadrunner Venture Studios is seeking a Head of Hardware Engineering to lead the portfolio company's hardware program from architecture to production.

You will direct system design for mechanical, thermal, combustion, and controls, supervise prototyping, qualification, and manufacturing readiness, and collaborate with external partners. This hands-on leadership role emphasizes rapid decision-making in a startup setting with significant equity.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical/aerospace or systems engineering is required.
• Experience leading hardware from concept through prototype to qualification and production planning.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks/NX) and PLM/process documentation.
• Experience with manufacturing release, drawings, BOMs, and supplier documentation.
• Background in combustion hardware, thermal systems, or gas handling advantageous.
• Proven ability to work with external partners and manage multidisciplinary teams.

Responsabilités

• Own hardware system architecture across mechanical, thermal, and controls domains.
• Lead hardware development from early design to field-ready production.
• Define verification methods, perform shop and system tests, and manage field qualification.
• Coordinate with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external partners to drive readiness.
