Position Overview:

The company is seeking a seasoned and strategic Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and strategy of the company, a specialty-specific physician practice management business with 100+ providers across 70+ outpatient offices.

The company has a successful track record of executing a multi-pronged growth strategy, including organic growth, ancillary services, de novos, and M&A, and is backed by two leading healthcare-focused private equity firms. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in financial leadership with an accounting foundation, particularly in private equity-backed, high-growth, multi-site healthcare environments, and be adept at driving financial strategy to support continued expansion and profitability. A strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement processes and financial systems within the healthcare sector is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy & Leadership:

  • Lead the development and execution of the company’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with its overall growth objectives and private equity partners’ expectations.
  • Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to the CEO, Board, and executive team to drive operational and business decisions.
  • Ensure the financial health of the company by managing cash flow, balance sheet, and profitability in line with growth targets and market dynamics.
  • Oversee financial planning and analysis, including the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial projections.
  • Develop and implement financial models that support the company’s growth initiatives, including de novo locations, M&A, and ancillary services.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to improve profitability, efficiency, and cost management.

Capital Allocation & Management:

  • Work closely with the CEO and private equity partners to manage capital allocation, ensuring that resources are optimally invested to support the company’s expansion plans.
  • Oversee the company’s capital structure, including debt management, equity financing, and other financial transactions to support growth objectives.
  • Ensure that the company maintains a strong financial position and meets the financial expectations of private equity investors.

Mergers & Acquisitions:

  • Lead financial due diligence and integration efforts related to M&A activities, ensuring successful transactions and seamless integration of acquired practices.
  • Provide financial leadership in identifying, evaluating, and structuring potential acquisitions, including de novo locations and other strategic growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the executive team and private equity investors to drive M&A strategy and identify opportunities that align with the company’s growth objectives.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring that the company’s accounting practices are in full compliance with regulatory standards and accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Manage the preparation and timely delivery of accurate and transparent financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure strong internal controls and implement best practices in accounting systems, procedures, and reporting to maintain financial integrity and mitigate risk.
  • Oversee and optimize the healthcare reimbursement process, ensuring accurate billing and timely collection from payers (insurance companies, government programs, and patients).
  • Ensure that the company’s reimbursement practices comply with relevant healthcare regulations and payer policies, including coding, billing, and documentation requirements.
  • Collaborate with the operational teams to identify opportunities for improving reimbursement rates, reducing claim denials, and improving cash flow.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare reimbursement trends, policies, and changes in payer requirements to guide financial decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, accounting standards, and industry requirements across the company’s operations.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate financial, operational, and market risks.
  • Oversee corporate governance practices, ensuring the company meets all legal and regulatory requirements, and provides transparent financial reporting to stakeholders.

Financial Reporting & Investor Relations:

  • Maintain strong communication with private equity partners, providing financial updates, forecasts, and strategic insights to align with investment goals.
  • Prepare presentations for the Board and other stakeholders, articulating financial performance, risk management, and growth opportunities.
  • Support investor relations by delivering accurate and clear financial reports, ensuring the company’s financial performance aligns with private equity investors' expectations.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team to support the company’s operations and growth objectives.
  • Develop and mentor team members, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance and accounting departments.
  • Ensure that the finance team has the necessary tools, processes, and training to effectively support the company’s strategic goals.

Qualifications:

  • Private Equity Experience: Proven experience in a CFO role within a private equity-backed healthcare organization, with a strong track record of financial leadership in high-growth, multi-site businesses.
  • Accounting Background: A solid foundation in accounting, with hands-on experience in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance under GAAP. A CPA or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
  • Healthcare Industry Expertise: At least 10 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a combined financial role, preferably within physician practice management, healthcare services, or other relevant healthcare settings.
  • Healthcare Reimbursement Expertise: In-depth knowledge of healthcare reimbursement models, including the mechanics of billing, coding, insurance payers (commercial and government), and understanding of reimbursement rate optimization.
