Job description

Our client, Control Systems 21, a growing process control and industrial automation company in Dillsburg, PA, is seeking an experienced, hands‑on CFO who is energized by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a small‑business environment with ambitious growth plans. The company is a leading provider of customized industrial automation and process control solutions, delivering the technology, expertise, and 24/7 support that help clients keep critical operations running efficiently and reliably.

This role is more than a traditional finance executive. The ideal candidate is a CFO who is equal parts strategist, business partner, and problem solver. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy digging into the "why" behind the numbers, working closely with operations, and helping drive decisions that fuel growth and profitability. We are seeking a self‑motivated, hands‑on leader who can improve systems and processes, mentor and develop team members, and translate financial data into meaningful business insights. The right candidate will be collaborative and inquisitive, with a strong interest in building and improving the finance function.

The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team while also being comfortable working directly with the details of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the company's accounting, finance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
  • Develop timely and meaningful financial reporting that provides management with insight into company performance and profitability.
  • Maintain and continually improve job costing and project accounting, including analysis of labor, materials, overhead, subcontractor and other project costs.
  • Analyze profitability by project, job, customer, service line, product and other meaningful business segments.
  • Work closely with operations and project teams to evaluate estimated versus actual project costs, margins, change orders, work in process and project performance.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, KPIs and other analytical tools to identify trends and support management decisions.
  • Provide financial analysis related to product development, including development costs, pricing, margins and return on investment.
  • Assist management with pricing strategies and evaluation of project and customer profitability.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, banking relationships and working capital management.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecasts throughout the year.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls, accounting policies and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate relationships with outside CPAs, banks, insurance providers and other professional advisors.
  • Oversee and develop the accounting/finance team and provide leadership to applicable administrative personnel and functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting, processes and efficiency throughout the organization.
  • Partner with ownership and senior management on strategic planning and significant business decisions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA or similar advanced credentials are preferred but not required based upon relevant experience.
  • 7+ years progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably including experience as a CFO, Controller, Finance Director or similar senior financial position.
  • Experience working in a privately held, small to mid‑sized business is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in job costing, project accounting and project profitability analysis.
  • Experience in a service, construction, installation, manufacturing, engineering or other project‑based environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and working capital management.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to turn financial and operational data into actionable information.
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills and the ability to effectively utilize accounting, ERP and reporting systems.
  • Experience developing KPIs, dashboards and management reporting.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
This opportunity offers you:
  • Competitive salary, negotiable per experience.
  • Company pays full premium for health insurance plus 50% reimbursement on deductible expenses.
  • Company paid dental, vision, life, short‑term and long‑term disability benefits.
  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with 3% company match.
  • PTO and paid holidays.
  • Flexible schedule and work/life balance.
  • The chance to shape the CFO role and make a meaningful financial contribution to the company’s growth.
