Job description

The client is seeking a mission-driven, operationally savvy, and strategically minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will report directly to the President & CEO and help lead the organization through continued growth, expansion, and increased organizational sophistication. This CFO role is designed for a collaborative business partner who can deliver strategic financial leadership while improving day-to-day operational effectiveness within a dynamic, grant-driven environment.

The CFO will help build and evolve the financial infrastructure required to support organizational scale and complexity, including multi-state operations and a diverse portfolio of scientific research programs, conservation initiatives, grant-funded activities, donor-supported efforts, educational programming, and land stewardship operations. The role emphasizes pairing CFO-level strategic capabilities with strong controllership discipline, translating organizational plans into measurable financial and operational outcomes, strengthening financial controls, and supporting adaptive execution as conservation needs change.

As the senior financial executive and strategic partner, the CFO will oversee core financial functions, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury, and grant-related financial management. Key responsibilities include presenting financial forecasts to the Board of Directors, evaluating growth and expansion strategies, improving internal processes, overseeing grant compliance, strengthening financial controls, and advising executive leadership while enabling program and development teams to navigate operational and financial challenges.
