Job summary

KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting is conducting a CFO search for a well-established nonprofit serving Southern NH, Massachusetts and nationally. This is a true CFO seat with direct access to the CEO and Board, owning accounting and financial strategy.

The ideal candidate has extensive nonprofit finance leadership experience, grants accounting, and comfort with Board-level reporting. Expect to manage multiple funding streams, lead audits, and build long-term forecasts in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on grant accounting experience required.
• 10+ years of progressive finance leadership.
• Nonprofit finance background strongly preferred.
• Experience managing multiple complex funding streams.
• Solid knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, audits, and government grant and contract compliance.
• Track record with forecasting, multi-year planning, and supporting organizational growth.
• Experience working with a Board and Finance or Audit Committee.
• Equally comfortable in the details of the close and in strategic conversations with leadership.
• CPA preferred not required.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close and the day-to-day accounting while a finance team is built out over time.
• Manage accounting and compliance for federal, state, and government contract funding along with foundation and private donor revenue.
• Lead the annual audit, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Build multi-year plans, forecasts, and scenario models to support growth and long-term sustainability.
• Work closely with the Board and Finance Committee and present financials in a way non-finance people can follow.
• Improve reporting and automation within an existing Blackbaud-based nonprofit systems setup.
• Partner with leadership on resource allocation, risk, and investment decisions.

The organization operates across multiple locations and has a strong regional presence along with programs that reach well beyond the state. This is a true CFO seat with direct access to the CEO and Board, and it also needs someone who will roll up their sleeves and own the accounting.
