Job description

Job DetailsJob Location: ASNC Corporate Office- Raleigh - Raleigh, NC 27607Salary Range: $185,000.00 - $200,000.00 Salary/yearThe Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) is seeking an experienced financial leader to serve as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), guiding the organization's financial strategy and operations at a pivotal time of growth. Reporting directly to and partnering closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO will serve as a trusted thought partner and integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), helping shape and deliver on ASNC's mission and strategic priorities. This role champions the integration of sound business analytics, data-driven decision-making, and process automation — modernizing legacy financial systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and visibility across the organization. This is an outstanding opportunity to drive positive change in a critically important, mission-driven organization, touching hundreds of thousands of lives each year. ASNC operates a complex, diversified financial model with approximately $34 million in annual revenue, generated primarily through Medicaid and commercial insurance reimbursement, complemented by approximately $3 million in annual philanthropic support. The CFO will play a critical role in optimizing this model, strengthening revenue cycle performance, evaluating service-line economics, and ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the organization. The CFO directly supervises the Accounting Manager, Revenue Cycle Manager, Finance Manager, and Director of Property and Facilities, and is accountable for the performance, development, and coordination of their respective teams. The broader finance/accounting team comprises a total of 10 staff. The Property and Facility Management team has six additional staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Strategy & Leadership Serve as strategic financial advisor to the executive team and Board, guiding forecasting, planning, and long-term strategy. Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, including the annual zero-based budget process. Partner with Development, Program, and Operations leaders on grant proposals, rate negotiations, and programmatic budgets. Conduct ongoing financial analysis to identify service weaknesses and growth opportunities.
  • Revenue Cycle Management Oversee Medicaid and private-pay billing, collections, reimbursement, and claims denial/appeals processes. Monitor key revenue cycle metrics, including days in accounts receivable, collection rates, and payer mix. Direct claims denial management, appeals processes, and resolution of billing discrepancies.
  • Financial Systems, Technology, Compliance & Reporting Manage relationships with audit firms for annual financial statement and 401(k) audits. Leverage ASNC's financial technology stack —NetSuite (ERP), Paycom (payroll/HR), and Power BI — to drive automation, data integrity, and real-time visibility. Manage cash accounts, endowment funds, and investment oversight. Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance), and applicable regulatory requirements. Establish and enforce financial policies and procedures aligned with state licensing and accreditation standards. Oversee BI dashboards providing leadership and the Board with real-time visibility into financial performance and KPIs. Manage banking relationships and cash management to maximize resources. Partner with the Compliance Officer on fraud, waste, and abuse prevention.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance role; active CPA strongly preferred
  • Experience with modern, cloud-based ERP and HRIS platforms and business intelligence tools is strongly preferred, along with a demonstrated ability to leverage technology to modernize legacy financial processes
  • Significant experience in healthcare, human services, behavioral health, IDD, or another reimbursement-driven environment involving Medicaid, managed care, commercial insurance, or other third-party payers is strongly preferred.
