Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, auditing practices, internal controls, and healthcare regulations.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute enterprise-wide financial strategies for sustainability and community benefit.
  • Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, capital/debt management and performance improvement.

Valleywise Health is seeking an accomplished and mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as the organization's senior financial executive and strategic advisor to the President & CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team. This highly visible leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the financial future of one of the nation's largest and most essential public safety-net healthcare systems.

As the chief steward of Valleywise Health's financial resources, the CFO will lead all aspects of enterprise finance, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, revenue cycle operations, treasury and investment management, capital and debt strategy, financial reporting, managed care and payer strategy, compliance, and risk management. The CFO will play a critical role in ensuring the organization's long-term fiscal sustainability while guiding strategic investments that advance clinical excellence, academic medicine, and community impact.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO and working closely with the publicly elected Board of Directors, the CFO will operate within a transparent public governance environment and serve as a trusted financial leader among key stakeholders, including county officials, rating agencies, financial partners, and community leaders. The role also requires close collaboration with District Medical Group (DMG) to maintain a strong financial partnership that supports Valleywise Health's integrated physician model and academic mission.

Annual Salary Range: $448,801.60 - $661-980.80

Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a Master's degree in accounting, finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that will result in the required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work.
Experience:
  • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible financial-related experience, preferablywithin a large, complex organization.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
  • Being a member of the Hospital Financial Management Association is preferred.
The SuccessfulCandidate Will Have:
  • Deep expertise in healthcare finance, including public healthcare financing, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, safety-net health systems, managed care contracting, value-based payment models, revenue cycle operations, treasury management, and capital planning.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, auditing practices, internal controls, regulatory compliance requirements, and healthcare-related federal, state, and local regulations.
  • A proven ability to develop and execute enterprise-wide financial strategies that support operational excellence, organizational growth, long-term sustainability, and community benefit commitments.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, capital and debt management, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Experience driving financial transformation, modernizing financial systems, and implementing innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and decision-making.
  • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to assess financial risks and opportunities and translate complex data into actionable business recommendations.
  • Executive leadership experience with the presence and credibility to advise CEOs, executive leadership teams, governing boards, and key external stakeholders.
  • Strong political and financial acumen, with experience operating in highly visible, publicly accountable, or complex governance environments.
  • The ability to build effective partnerships with physicians, clinical leaders, operational executives, government officials, financial institutions, and community stakeholders.
  • A track record of leading high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Unquestioned integrity, sound judgment, resilience, and a commitment to mission-driven leadership that balances fiscal responsibility with exceptional patient care and community impact.
