Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region is seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will partner with the executive team to guide financial strategy, planning, and analysis, focusing on bottom-line performance.

The CFO will lead budgeting, forecasting, audits, risk management, and compliance, while developing relationships with the Board and external partners to support the mission.

This is a permanent, full-time role in Wisconsin with compensation up to $90,000 annually plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent; 7–10 years of related experience; non‑profit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage organization’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and auditing.
• Oversee preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements and reports to stakeholders.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting.
• Handle bidding, proposals, and contracts for third-party subcontractors (excluding construction).
• Develop and implement the financial strategy, including long-term planning and risk management.
• Partner with senior leadership to provide strategic financial analysis to drive decisions.
• Administer risk management activities, internal controls, insurance, and compliance with standards.
• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding financial and grant-related functions.
• Direct the Finance team and develop staff, fostering cross-department collaboration.
• Establish relationships with Board, affiliate personnel, partners and stakeholders.

As Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region’s Chief Financial Officer, you will become a key partner in developing, monitoring, governing, and evaluating the overall corporate strategy, planning, and analysis with a focus on bottom line financial and operating performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage the organization’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and auditing. Ensure that the financial transactions, policies, and procedures meet the organization’s short and long-term business objectives and are conducted in accordance with all appropriate regulations, accounting principles, and standards.
• Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure the timely reporting of key financial data and updates to key stakeholders.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting.
• Manage bidding, proposals, recommendations, and contracts for all third party subcontractors for the organization, excluding construction subcontractors.
• Develop and implement the financial strategy of the organization. This includes long-term financial planning and forecasting, risk management, and investment strategies.
• Partner with the senior leadership team on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the senior leadership team based on financial analysis and projections cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

Risk Management and Compliance

• Administer all operational risk management activities of the organization, including but not limited to maintaining internal control systems, ensuring adequate insurance coverage, managing fraud-mitigation protocols, monitoring compliance with Habitat for Humanity International standards.
• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial and grant-related functions. This includes compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations and statutory grant requirements.

Leadership

• Direct the Finance team and ensure their ongoing professional development and training.
• Engage other members of the senior leadership team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial solutions positively support the organization’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.
• Establish and develop relationships with the Board of Directors, Committee members, Habitat for Humanity affiliate personnel, external partners and other stakeholders.
