Job description

Council Capital is a healthcare-focused private equity firm based in Nashville, Tennessee, managing over $350 million in committed capital.

We invest in lower middle market healthcare companies where we see the potential to scale purpose and performance. Our investments span control and minority positions in businesses with enterprise values between $10 million and $100 million.

What sets us apart is the Council Model —a proven framework that surrounds founders and leadership teams with a powerful combination of support: our CEO Council of seasoned operators, our Strategic Healthcare Investors who bring real-world insight and access, and our internal Value Creation Team , focused on enabling growth through talent, systems, and strategy.

At Council Capital, we’re not just backing companies—we’re helping build enduring businesses that improve lives and shape the future of healthcare.

About ViaQuest

ViaQuest is a leading provider of behavioral health services, delivering clinical care through a network of over 800 clinicians across hundreds of locations. The company partners with skilled nursing facilities to provide on-site behavioral health services, billing Medicare and Medicaid directly on behalf of the clinicians it places.

The behavioral health division is a high-growth, high-margin business with revenue of approximately $100 million and a strong track record of expansion. The company recently entered new state markets and continues to see significant demand for its services, driven by favorable reimbursement trends and an aging population.

ViaQuest is backed by an experienced private equity sponsor that is committed to investing in the right leadership and infrastructure to support the next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

ViaQuest is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance organization for its behavioral health division. This is a build-and-lead role. The company is investing in a new finance infrastructure, and the CFO will have the mandate and authority to construct the team, systems, and processes needed to support a $100 million and growing healthcare services platform.

This is not a maintenance role. The ideal candidate is a technically hands-on accounting leader who owns the close and the audit, builds controls that hold, and develops the team that executes them. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, the private equity sponsor, and operational leadership to drive financial performance, enable strategic transactions, and position the company for long-term value creation.

Key Responsibilities

ACCOUNTING, CONTROLS, AND CLOSE

  • Own the monthly close and deliver accurate, timely GAAP financial statements, with a disciplined close of under 20 days established within the first quarter.

  • Design and implement robust internal controls, including segregation of duties, disbursement controls, and delegation of authority.

  • Establish documented accounting policies, accrual methodology, and reconciliation cadence.

  • Own the external audit relationship and drive audit readiness across the organization.

FINANCE ORGANIZATION AND TEAM

  • Lead and develop the finance organization across accounting, FP&A, and revenue cycle management.

  • Complete a structured review of the accounting team and establish the path for the Controller function.

  • Assess the revenue cycle management function, understand its strengths and gaps, and provide active financial oversight.

STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team on all financial matters.

  • Partner with the IDD Division CFO to implement joint best practices across the system.

  • Drive cost-to-serve transparency, margin analysis by location, and financial support for new market growth.

  • Provide clear, data-driven insights for decision-making and resource allocation.

GOVERNANCE AND CAPITAL STRUCTURE

  • Manage the lender relationship, covenant compliance, and financial reporting obligations.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for the board, the sponsor, and external stakeholders.

  • Prepare the finance organization to support future capital events and withstand rigorous financial scrutiny from lenders, buyers, and auditors.

Candidate Profile

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Senior accounting leadership experience as a CFO, Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, or VP of Accounting, with direct ownership of the monthly close, the external audit relationship, and the accounting team.

  • 10+ years of healthcare accounting experience.

  • Controllership foundation: held a Controller or Chief Accounting Officer role, or directly owned the close, the audit relationship, and the accounting team as CFO.

  • Demonstrated experience building or rebuilding a finance function, including controls implementation, close discipline, and team development.

  • Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, revenue cycle management, and multi-site healthcare operations.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Prior CFO title preferred.

  • CPA strongly preferred.

  • Public accounting foundation, ideally with audit experience at a national firm.

  • Experience in private equity-backed or institutionally owned businesses, including lender management and board-level reporting.

  • Exposure to financially challenging environments: turnarounds, post-diligence cleanup, or organizations in transition.

LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES

  • Technically hands-on by preference: reviews the work, not just the people who do it.

  • Warm, steady, and trust-building; leads with listening and earns credibility with teams quickly.

  • Direct communicator with the candor to deliver difficult messages and the data to back them.

  • Collaborative with operational leadership, clinical teams, and a peer CFO, while maintaining financial discipline.

  • High integrity, intellectual honesty, and sound judgment under pressure.

Location

Columbus, Ohio, is preferred. Candidates within driving distance of Columbus will be considered. In-office presence of 2-3 days per week is required, with a heavier onsite presence expected during the first 3 months.

Compensation

ViaQuest offers a competitive executive compensation package, including base salary, a performance-based annual bonus, and long-term incentive participation tied to value creation. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
