Job summary

IAP World Services, an Intrepid Global Solutions company, seeks a Chief Facility Engineer in the Virginia area to lead complex engineering projects across defense and national security missions. You will assess design criteria, oversee procurement, and mentor a team of engineers.

Required are a Bachelor’s in engineering, 10+ years of project leadership, and a PE license. Strong communication and knowledge of codes are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • 10 years of managing large scale projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Strong communication with audiences including management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Knowledge of local/state/federal statutes and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and time-conscious work.
  • Professional registration in a technical society preferred.
  • Understanding of codes, standards, materials cost, and LEAN/ISO principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts.
  • Establish, track, and monitor material quantities; provide analysis and forecasts.
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria.
  • Participate in equipment procurement, permitting, and subcontracting.
  • Perform calculations, specify equipment, and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Mentor staff; develop training materials and conduct seminars.
  • Analyze and recommend solutions aligned with project objectives.

Job description

IAP World Services, an Intrepid Global Solutions company, is a recognized leader in Facilities Management and Operations in support of Defense, Intelligence, and National Security missions Under a major Intelligence Community contract, IAP operates and maintains facilities, systems, and associated grounds across Virginia and Maryland. Services provided include comprehensive facility operations; project management for renovations, minor construction, and major equipment repairs; engineering, construction, and operations support; custodial and grounds maintenance services; environmental, safety, and occupational health support; food services; motorpool and logistics operations; and physical and technical security services. As the Chief Facility Engineer, you will serve as a Lead on assigned projects and perform complex to difficult engineering assignments, evaluates, selects, and apply advanced engineering techniques to a broad set of complex assignments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts
  • Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
  • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
  • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of complex to difficult engineering complexity
  • Participate in people development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counseling
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • 10 years of managing large scale projects
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Professional registration and membership in technical society (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
  • Managing and leading a large project
  • Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
  • Knowledge of process improvement models (6S, LEAN, ISO)
  • Providing high quality customer service
  • Building and sustaining high performing teams
  • Managing O&M and construction projects
  • Large scale capital planning and improvement projects
