Job Summary:

This position will report directly to the board of trustees. The CEO for William Newton Hospital, a nonprofit Critical Access Hospital (CAH), serves as the primary strategic and operational leader, balancing compassionate rural healthcare delivery with financial stewardship. The CEO is responsible for driving innovation, expanding services to meet the needs of the communities we serve, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements while fostering a positive, mission-driven culture. The CEO role of William Newton Hospital and Clinics requires a forward-thinking individual capable of navigating the unique challenges of rural healthcare, such as limited resources and increasing demand of accessible services,

Core Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop, execute, and refine multi-year strategies aligned with the hospital’s mission, community role, and rural market realities.
  • Financial & Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations, including budgetary planning, resource allocation, and revenue cycle improvement.
  • Board Governance: Work closely with the board of directors, providing regular reports, strategic counsel, and implementing board-led policies.
  • Clinical & Quality Care: Ensure high-quality, compliant care by overseeing clinical performance metrics, patient experience, and safety standards.
  • Community & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary spokesperson, engaging with local leaders, donors, and the public to strengthen community partnerships.
  • Physician Recruitment & Staffing: Lead, recruit, and retain qualified medical staff, ensuring robust staffing models for rural needs.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Management: Navigate complex healthcare regulations, grant requirements, and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 10 years of senior leadership experience in a hospital or acute care setting, with preference for Critical Access Hospital’s, or 15 years in senior leadership with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Education: A master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative culture and lead diverse teams toward common goals.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong skills in financial management, budgeting, and grant management.
  • Communication: Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills to build trust with staff and the communities William Newton Hospital serves.
