My client provides service-bid, design-build, and general contracting services to clients in the Commercial and Industrial Construction markets. Job Description

  • Maintain a watch over all budgets, bids and proposals across all three territories, with greater focus on bids and proposals.
  • Provide expertise in concrete estimating. (Steel building expertise already exists within the company)
  • Provide final estimate review and approval of cost for all bids and proposals over $3 million - Includes review of quantity surveys, self-perform pricing, and trade partner pricing.
  • Maintain or delegate the improvement and maintenance of the WinEst database.
  • Maintain or delegate a standard tool for takeoff
  • Be proficient in scheduling to review and improve preliminary schedules used in budgets/bids/proposals.
  • Maintain key trade partner (subs and vendors) relationships and make bid invitation lists, both in partnership with Territory Managers
  • Maintain design-build partner relationships and make invitations, both in partnership with Area Managers and President.
  • Perform quantity surveying and pricing when needed to complete an estimate.
  • Lead or assist with Go/NoGo analyses. When answer=Go, clearly articulate a strategy to win
  • Maintain and improve all estimating and pricing/proposal templates.
  • Provide direct leadership for Concrete Estimators
  • Lead the preparation of most proposal packages.
  • Understand and execute multiple delivery methods including Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, and CM at Risk.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with architects, owners, engineers, designers, clients, and others for potential business development

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction-Related Field, and at least ten years of industry experience
  • Proven estimating experience across all divisions of general building construction. Specific competency in concrete construction is required.
  • Analytical Skills: Analyze project plans and specifications to accurately assess material quantities, labor requirements and associated costs.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Perform calculations, quantify materials, estimate labor hours and determine project costs with precision.
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughly review project documentation to identify key components.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively communicate with subcontractors, project teams and stakeholders, conveying cost-related insights, addressing concerns, and presenting estimates and proposals clearly.
  • Time Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and project timelines.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Adjust cost estimates and propose viable alternatives when facing scope changes, design modifications or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Digital Software Knowledge: Demonstrate proficiency in using estimating software, construction accounting apps and takeoff tools.
  • Negotiation Skills: Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain competitive pricing and optimize project costs.
