Job summary

The Lubrizol Corporation in Deer Park, TX is seeking a Chief Equipment Inspector to lead mechanical integrity programs across fixed equipment and oversee inspection governance. You will partner with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Construction teams to ensure compliance and reliability.

  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, API inspection codes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in HSES programs and site initiatives.
  • Oversee Mechanical Integrity inspection and recommendation programs.
  • Prioritize inspection activities and ensure timely completion per standards.
  • Review, approve, and monitor inspection findings and corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with mechanically integrity procedures and PSM requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight for fixed equipment inspection programs and data management.
  • Review inspection plans for TARs, capital projects, and new equipment.
  • Act as site SME for inspection practices and QA/QC.
  • Direct inspectors and NDE technicians to ensure high-quality inspections.
  • Govern acceptance criteria for fixed equipment assessments and repairs.
  • Support training, qualification, and certification of inspection personnel.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations, and contractors on reliability.
  • Lead investigations and reliability improvement efforts as needed.
  • Maintain inspection records and regulatory documentation.
  • Promote safety, reliability, and productivity across the site.

How You'll Make An Impact

As a Chief Equipment Inspector, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and compliance of fixed equipment assets across the site. You will serve as the subject matter expert for inspection programs, mechanical integrity, and inspection governance while partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Construction teams. In this role, you will:

  • Provide visible leadership and engagement in Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) programs and initiatives.
  • Lead and oversee the site's Mechanical Integrity inspection and recommendation compliance programs.
  • Prioritize inspection activities and ensure inspection requirements are completed on time and in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Review, approve, and monitor inspection findings, recommendations, acceptance criteria, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with Mechanical Integrity procedures, Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Provide technical oversight for fixed equipment inspection programs, reporting practices, and reliability initiatives.
  • Review, recommend, and support inspection and testing plans for turnarounds (TARs), capital projects, and newly installed equipment.
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for inspection practices, mechanical integrity requirements, and fixed equipment quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
  • Direct and provide guidance to inspectors and NDE technicians to ensure consistent, high-quality inspection execution and documentation.
  • Provide governance and oversight of acceptance criteria for fixed equipment assessments and repairs.
  • Support training, qualification, and certification efforts for inspection personnel.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Integrity Engineers, Operations, Reliability, Construction and contract service providers to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Lead or support incident investigations and reliability improvement efforts as required.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of inspection records, compliance documentation and inspection data management systems.
  • Promote a customer-focused mindset while supporting the reliability, safety and productivity goals of the manufacturing site.
Required Qualifications That Enable Your Success
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current API 510, API 570, and API 653 certifications.
  • 10+ years of inspection, mechanical integrity, or fixed equipment experience in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, or related manufacturing environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of mechanical damage mechanisms and fixed equipment inspection programs.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, API inspection codes, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience utilizing inspection data management systems and work management systems.
  • Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications That Drive You Forward
  • Associate's degree or other technical degree in a related discipline.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Working knowledge of API 580 (Risk-Based Inspection), API 571, and API 572.
  • Experience with PCMS or similar mechanical integrity management systems.
  • FRP tank and piping asset management experience.
  • Experience supporting glass-lined equipment inspection programs.
  • Prior leadership experience directing inspectors, NDE technicians, or serving as a Chief Inspector or Nested Inspector.
  • Experience supporting turnaround planning and execution (TARs).
  • Strong background in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Mechanical Integrity programs.
