Job summary

San Diego Mission Bay Resort is seeking a Chief Engineer to partner with the Director of Engineering, lead a skilled team, and maintain a premier 18-acre resort. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, safety, and guest experience, with a focus on proactive maintenance and operational excellence.

You will oversee Preventive Maintenance programs, manage HVAC/plumbing/electrical systems, and contribute to environmental initiatives while fostering a positive, energetic workplace.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8 year building maintenance experience.
• Good computer skills.
• Prior experience leading teams in a multi-faceted hotel or resort operation is required.
• Experience in a union environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute proactive Preventive Maintenance programs while responding efficiently to guest, member, and employee service needs.
• Recruit, train, develop, and motivate a diverse engineering team, including HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, painters, and general maintenance professionals.
• Actively support and advance the resort’s Green Initiative, identifying innovative strategies to reduce environmental impact.
• Elevate overall property condition, safety, and guest experience through attention to detail and team collaboration.
• Foster a positive, high-energy work environment that balances professionalism with fun.
