Job summary

The Adler Planetarium seeks a Chief Engineer to lead the stationary engineer team and oversee daily facility operations on Chicago's Museum Campus. You will manage maintenance, safety, and capital projects while coordinating with leadership and trades to ensure high-quality service.

The role requires a City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License, 5+ years of experience, and proficiency with building systems, CMMS, and automation tools. This is a full-time union position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License.
• Minimum of 5 years as a licensed (City of Chicago) Stationary Engineer.
• Experience using computer software (email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation program, video conferencing).
• Valid driver's license required (uses Adler Van and MVR check).

Responsibilities

• Oversee, execute, and document all preventative maintenance and repairs for facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, chemical treatments, and fire/life safety.
• Schedule, lead, and instruct stationary engineers; assign and track work orders using CMMS.
• Provide technical advice on repairs, ongoing maintenance, and capital projects with Operations leadership.
• Enforce safety regulations and shop housekeeping standards throughout the facility.
• Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities to reduce consumption.
