South Beach Group Hotels in Miami Beach seeks a Chief Engineer to lead maintenance of HVAC, boilers, chillers, and building systems to ensure guest comfort and safety.

The role requires strong technical expertise, preventive maintenance planning, and the ability to oversee a team of maintenance staff while coordinating with hotel operations. Weekend and holiday availability are expected as part of a full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of relevant HVAC technician experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hotel environment.
• EPA I/II/Universal certification required in HVAC.
• Refrigeration license required.

Responsibilities

• Make repairs to air conditioners, change filters and coils; replace blower motors.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and boilers.
• Take chiller readings and water samples; test tower water and record data.
• Repair and maintain pumps, chillers, boilers, and walk-in freezers/coolers.
• Assist in supervising other maintenance staff and scheduling preventive maintenance tasks.
• Maintain pool and spa areas; ensure safety and cleanliness.

Job description

Summary/Objective

The Chief Engineer is responsible for performing highly skilled maintenance and repair duties for the property, including but not limited to chillers, boilers, pumps, air handler's controls, walk-in freezers, and coolers.

Essential Functions

• Make repairs to air conditioners – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, replace HVAC compressors.
• Take chiller readings and water samples.
• Test tower water and record data.
• Check and replace pumps.
• Adjust chemical pumps as required.
• Perform plumbing repairs – open clogged drains, change FET washers, stems seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
• Understand blueprints and wiring diagrams.
• Maintain preventive maintenance of HVAC systems
• Repair kitchen equipment.
• Analyze, repair and install chillers, boilers, controls, walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in coolers and freezers, pumps, ice makers, compressors, expansion valves, and electric motors.
• Clean pool pump room.
• Assist in supervising other maintenance staff
• Assist in scheduling of preventive maintenance tasks.
• Maintain pool and spa – clean, vacuum, adjust chemical levels, change valves, and replace filters.
• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service- oriented manner.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include adhering to the proper dress code and wearing a name tag while working.

• Perform any other duties assign by his/her manager.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standards office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Required Education and Experience

• A minimum of (4) years of relevant HVAC tech experience.
• A minimum of (2) year of experience in a hotel environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

• EPA I, II, or Universal certification needed.
• Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge.
• Refrigeration license required.

• Highly responsible and reliable.

• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining call and courteous at all times.
• Flexible schedule. Able to work weekends and holidays.
