Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with complex missile/launch vehicle systems; systems integration and testing.
  • Electrical design and avionics architecture development experience.
  • Proven leadership in systems design and development; able to drive closure on technical issues.
  • Ability to apply Model Based Engineering and Agile methods; strong communication with leadership.
  • US Citizenship with Secret clearance, ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

This position is in support of the Chief Engineer’s Office on the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program. The D5 Life Extension 2 (LE2) Deputy Chief Engineer supports the design and development of the Trident II Life Extension 2 Flight System for the U.S. Navy. This technical position supports and collaborates with the FBM Chief Engineer and D5LE2 Chief Engineer to ensure technical design integrity through all phases of the life cycle, balances schedule demands without sacrificing technical rigor by developing technical risk assessments and mitigation approaches to deliver required capability.

This position is in support of the Chief Engineer’s Office on the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program. The D5 Life Extension 2 (LE2) Deputy Chief Engineer supports the design and development of the Trident II Life Extension 2 Flight System for the U.S. Navy. This technical position supports and collaborates with the FBM Chief Engineer and D5LE2 Chief Engineer to ensure technical design integrity through all phases of the life cycle, balances schedule demands without sacrificing technical rigor by developing technical risk assessments and mitigation approaches to deliver required capability.

The Successful Individual
  • Focuses on new development scope, and integration of enterprise resources (E&T analysis, technical baselines, Center of Excellence resources, Digital Transformation), to ensure development success
  • Supports the FBM Chief Engineer’s office to ensure overall technical rigor and adherence to engineering standards and processes to support the needs of the LE2 program
  • Engages in architecture definition and trades and serves as chair of the Engineering Review Board
  • Provides technical inputs to the FBM Chief Engineer’s Office for overall architecture and system performance including technical performance measurements and risk assessments
  • Leads the definition of technology development roadmaps and insertion including Model Based Engineering transformation
  • Ensures selected designs are robust and include appropriate margins to facilitate safety, performance, producibility and operational availability/supportability
  • Leads special assignment projects to address and drive closure on key program technical concerns
  • Ensures identification of lessons-learned and corrective action are initiated and implemented to improve future and ongoing programs

Accountable for all aspects of engineering and technology activities within a program, program area, or line of business to ensure mission milestones and business objectives are met. Serves as the primary technical authority / technical interface with internal program management and external customers. Ensures proposals have sound technical solutions and schedules and drive affordability. Leads a technical team of cross functional engineers to ensure successful proper system/product development and execution. Evaluates and ensures complex issues are resolved in a cost effective, innovative way. Champion mission success and drive a mission success culture. Directs a team into exploration of new problem solution areas with novel concepts and approaches, guiding scope definition and prioritizing problems for investigation. Determine appropriate risk posture and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects. Ensure selected designs are robust and include appropriate margins to facilitate safety, performance, producibility and operational availability/supportability. Ensures program plans and technical baselines are consistent with Program Control processes and Modern Engineering Practices. Responsible for key decision making that impact businesses, the failure to achieve the objectives result in critical impact of program capabilities. Ensures identification of lessons learned, and corrective action are initiated and implemented to improve future and ongoing programs. Provides technical mentoring and career development support of team and allocates resources effectively. Leads and directs the technical execution efforts of the program or LOB.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Experience with complex missile or launch vehicle systems with demonstrated expertise in systems integration, engineering, and/or test of complex systems
  • Experience with electrical design and avionics architecture development
  • Proven team leadership experience in systems design and development
  • Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve technical issues/challenges; demonstrated agility in decision making
  • Experience with Model Based Engineering and Agile tools and methods
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in engaging and influencing executive leadership and external customers
  • US Citizenship with current Secret security clearance required prior to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance
Desired Skills
  • Masters degree in Science or Engineering preferred
  • Experience as a conceptual thinker with ability to proactively translate into action and results
  • Experience in strategic nuclear missile systems
  • Experience in key technologies or applicable skills: Aerodynamics; Thermal; Materials; Propulsion; Navigation, Guidance, and Control; Flight Computers; Communications; Power
  • Demonstrated customer orientation by learning and understanding customers’ missions, needs, and perspectives
  • Experience in working with the U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Program Office
  • Experience in a development and test environment
  • Current Top Secret security clearance
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $205300.00 - $381300.00
