Job summary

DEEP is seeking a world-class Chief Engineer, Electrical Systems to lead the design, development, integration and lifecycle support of all electrical systems for our next generation underwater habitats.

The role requires strategic technical leadership across electrical, power, control and instrumentation domains, with collaboration across internal teams and external partners to ensure safety, reliability and performance in extreme subsea environments.

Qualifications

  • BS/BE in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in electrical systems engineering for high-reliability marine/subsea platforms.
  • Proven leadership of complex engineering efforts with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the overall electrical systems architecture across DEEP habitat platforms.
  • Lead lifecycle engineering of electrical systems including power, cabling, sensors, and control electronics.
  • Oversee design development, reviews, and integration with mechanical, software, and operations teams.
  • Ensure electrical systems are robust, maintainable, and suited for extreme subsea environments.
  • Define and supervise electrical system test and verification activities across development and deployment.

Job description

Role Description:

DEEP is seeking a world-class Chief Engineer, Electrical Systems to serve as the senior technical leader responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, delivery, and lifecycle support of all electrical and electronic systems within our next generation of underwater habitats.


This role holds organizational scope and authority equivalent to the Chief Engineer, Mechanical Systems and is responsible for technical leadership, cross-discipline coordination, and engineering excellence across all electrical, power, control, and instrumentation domains.


The Chief Engineer, Electrical Systems provides senior technical leadership to both internal engineering teams and a select group of external engineering and manufacturing partners, ensuring that all electrical systems are delivered to the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability.


Technical Leadership


  • Define and maintain the overall electrical systems architecture across DEEP habitat platforms.

  • Establish engineering standards, design principles, and interface definitions for electrical systems.

  • Lead cross-functional integration with mechanical, auxiliary systems, software, and operations teams.

  • Provide senior technical guidance and decision-making for complex system-level trade studies.


Design, Development & Integration

Lead lifecycle engineering of electrical systems including:



  • Power generation, storage, and distribution

  • Electrical cabling, connectors, and underwater interfaces

  • Sensors, instrumentation, and control electronics

  • Guide internal teams and external partners through design development, reviews, and integration.

  • Ensure electrical systems are robust, maintainable, and suited for operation in extreme subsea environments.

  • Define and oversee electrical system test and verification activities across development and deployment phases.

  • Support system-level testing in laboratory, environmental, and operational settings.

  • Ensure technical readiness of electrical systems for deployment and operation.

  • Project Delivery & Operational Support

  • Support engineering execution to meet program cost, schedule, and performance objectives.

  • Provide senior technical support during system integration, deployment, and commissioning activities.

  • Participate in readiness reviews and post-deployment technical assessments.


Safety, Compliance & Documentation


  • Promote a strong safety culture across all electrical engineering activities.

  • Ensure electrical systems comply with applicable standards, codes, and best practices.

  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation throughout the system lifecycle.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Experience with subsea or marine electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with safety-critical system development and verification.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, engineers, operators, and partner organizations.

  • Passion for exploration and engineering in extreme environments.

  • Systems thinker with strong architectural instincts

  • Collaborative leader across disciplines and organizations

  • Decisive technical authority in complex environments

  • Mentor and builder of high-performing engineering teams


Minimum Qualifications:


  • BS/BE in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 12+ years of experience in electrical systems engineering for high-reliability marine, subsea platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering efforts involving both internal teams and external partners.

  • Strong systems-level engineering judgment and problem-solving capability.
