Job summary

JLL is seeking a Chief/Lead Data Center Engineer to oversee and maintain critical facilities in Charlotte, NC. The role requires deep expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, including generators, UPS, ATS, switchgear, relays, and BMS/DDC.

You will interpret design documents, coordinate with CRE D&C and project management, and ensure continuous operation and safety across all building infrastructure. Excellent communication and 24/7 availability are essential.

Qualifications

• AAS in engineering or technical area.
• 10+ years in a technical, critical environment.
• Operating Engineer or equivalent license; Universal CFCs license.
• Able to interpret design/construction docs for critical sites.
• Experience with Diesel Generators, UPS, ATS, switchgear and relays.
• Proficient in MS Office and email; strong math/physics/chemistry basics.
• Strong communication with internal/external customers.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, operate, maintain and repair electrical/mechanical building systems.
• Update drawings with CRE D&C or project management as required.
• Support continuous operation of building infrastructure (UPS, generators, chillers, pumps, BMS).
• Respond to service emergencies; maintain resilience under duress.
• Ensure 24/7 availability through appropriate scheduling.

Chief / Lead Data Center Engineer

Qualifications:

• Desired AAS in an engineering or technical area; High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Desired 10 years (+) related work experience, in a technical, critical environment operation.
• Required: Operating Engineer or other applicable licenses and Universal CFC's license.
• Desired: SMA, FMA, RPA, or equivalent.
• Ability to understand and interpret various design and construction documents relating to critical sites, spaces and systems. Work with CRE D&C or project management to update drawings as required.
• Ability to operate, maintain and trouble shoot: Diesel Generator systems, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), electrical switchgear, breakers, and protective relays.
• Proficient in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office and E-mail.
• A solid grasp of mathematics, the principles of physics and chemistry as they related to facilities management and engineering operations.
• Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external customers.
• Ability to self perform the repair, maintenance and service required for continuous operation of all building infrastructure. a. Electrical (UPS, ATS, SEP, STS and PDU), generators, generator controls, fuel systems, switch gear, transfer gear and paralleling gear, lighting, energy conservation, relites. b. Mechanical (Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, Cooling Towers, Water treatment, AHU's, CRAC, plumbing) c. Fire / Life safety, suppression systems (dry & wet pipe), Gaseous, EWFD, V-EWFD (VESDA). d. Temperature controls systems, BMS, DDC, CMMS, Pneumatics. e. Construction (painting, doors, locks, wall and ceiling,). f. Digital systems (fire alarm, duress, card access, radionics, CCTV). g. Excludes major OEM tear down maintenance.
• Experience in working on energized equipment (hot work);
• Ability to maintain resilience under duress during service emergencies.

24/7 Availability via various schedules
