Job summary

CoralTree Hospitality in Lahaina, Hawaii, is seeking a Full-Time Chief Engineer for Ka'anapali Ali'i. You will lead maintenance of owner units, common areas, and central systems, ensuring guest and homeowner satisfaction while upholding resort standards.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will manage repairs, preventative maintenance, budgeting, and staff supervision, with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and profitability through quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher educational attainment.
• Significant leadership experience as Chief Engineer in a major hotel or similar setting.
• Hospitality industry experience and supervisory background preferred.
• Knowledge of trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and safety systems.
• Forecasting, budgeting, and profit/loss awareness for department operations.
• Ability to read plans and technical documentation, with focus on safety and security.
• OSHA safety requirements and PPE knowledge; valid Hawaii driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and repair of owner units, common areas, and central systems (water, HVAC, electrical).
• Ensure guest and homeowner satisfaction and safety through efficient maintenance work orders.
• Maintain units and public areas in good repair and uphold resort aesthetics.
• Apply resort standards to maximize equipment efficiency and control supply orders.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering, the Chief Engineer oversees and manages the maintenance and repair of owner units, common areas, and central systems, including water, air conditioning, and electrical systems. The Chief Engineer ensures guest and homeowner satisfaction and safety by providing efficient, courteous service for maintenance work orders and preventative maintenance plans. The role is responsible for maintaining individual units and public areas in good physical repair and maintaining an aesthetically pleasing quality. The engineer ensures maximum profitability by applying resort standards for the efficient use of equipment and tools and for ordering supplies.

Qualifications

• The minimum educational requirement for the position is an associate degree (two-year university or beyond secondary level) or equivalent
• A minimum of five or more years as a Chief Engineer supervisory engineer in a major first-class hotel or one or more years as an Assistant Chief Engineer in a similar hotel, is considered
• Prefer at least a year of hospitality industry experience, supervisory level, or technical engineering staff
• Knowledge of significant trade functions in most hotels includes carpentry, cabinet making, furniture finishing, upholstery, plumbing, pipe fitting, electricity, masonry, lather, and other trades. The role requires forecasting and budgeting, departmental profit and loss analysis, strategic planning, five-year plans, and decision-making processes
• Ability to understand plans, specifications, other technical documentation, building security, locks, and hardware, ground recreational facilities management, pest control (including insects, rodents, cats, etc.), and sanitation
• Experience with OSHA requirements in safety, lock-out/tag-out, and use of MSDS sheets, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety training.
• A valid Hawaii State driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required
