Job summary

Aiken County Public Schools seeks a General Counsel to provide comprehensive legal services to the Board of Education, the superintendent, and district staff. The role requires strong knowledge of constitutional law, South Carolina school law, and state education statutes, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory authority effectively.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in South Carolina.
• Specialized training and/or experience in school-law issues preferred.
• Established practice with progressively more responsible cases.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal opinions, interpretations and recommendations to the Board of Education and district administration to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
• Review, edit and create district documents to convey information legally and clearly.
• Represent the district in legal matters reflecting the Board's directives.
• Advise district staff on legal matters to maintain compliance.
• Provide staff development on legal responsibilities.
• Attend district, regional and state meetings to gather and convey information.
• Prepare a variety of written materials documenting activities and policy changes.
• Offer legal counsel to the Board, Superintendent and staff on district legal matters.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Board.
